Exploration of Flushing Restaurant
After teaching a course called “At a Chinese Restaurant “, my class was expected to explore New Chinatown- Flushing on May 22, at Mulan Restaurant located at Queens Crossing Building. I picked this restaurant for my students because it is new and the food is good; also, it is easy to park there.
The day before, I called Chef Peter to get the updated lunch menu and convert it into the pinyin system so that my students can use mandarin to order food in Chinese by themselves.
Here was our four courses’ Lunch Menu:
A. 湯tāng / soup:
After a very satisfied lunch we went to Gold City Supermarket to do a little shopping. My students bought some Chinese fruit like 荔lì 枝zhī ,芒máng 果guǒ ,水shuǐ 餃jiăo ,雪xuě 裡lǐ 紅hóng ,青qīng 島dăo 啤pí 酒jiŭ ,they were very surprised with some edible things, such as pig’s blood, chicken’s heart, duck’s tongue ,etc.
After this exploration, they are probably more familiar with the culinary tastes of the Chinese people.
